At Risk for Heart Disease?

You may qualify for cardiovascular prevention research at Hightower Clinical.

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of illness and death worldwide. Many people are unaware they are at risk until symptoms appear. Traditional risk factors such as age, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol, can indicate who’s more likely to develop heart disease, but they don’t always reveal whether plaque has already started building up in the arteries.

At Hightower Clinical, we’re conducting a clinical trial designed to move beyond traditional risk markers and focus on detecting the actual presence of atherosclerosis (plaque buildup). This study aims to personalize prevention strategies and help reduce cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and strokes, in individuals who are most at risk.

*Participation in the Clinical Trial is completely free of cost and is your choice.

*To participate, fill out the form, and someone from our research staff will call you to determine your eligibility for the Clinical Research Study.

About the TRANSFORM Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Clinical Trial

This clinical trial focuses on finding better ways to spot people who might be at risk for heart problems even before they show any symptoms. Currently, many prevention methods rely on general risk factors, which don’t always provide an accurate assessment.

This study takes a more detailed approach by looking directly at the arteries to see signs of atherosclerosis, or plaque buildup. By visualizing and measuring this buildup, doctors can get a clearer idea of each person’s actual heart health. The goal is to make prevention more personalized so that treatment aligns with each individual’s specific cardiovascular risk.

*All study procedures and study-related treatment, including the investigational drug, are free of cost, and insurance is not required to participate.

*The study doctor will take you through every step of the Clinical Trial before you decide to participate and will answer any questions you have about the study treatment.

Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Research: What to Expect?

This clinical trial enrolls patients without known symptoms of ASCVD but who are at increased risk due to age, diabetes, prediabetes, or metabolic syndrome. It tests whether a CAD Staging System-based approach, using imaging to evaluate coronary atherosclerosis along with personalized treatment and education, can reduce cardiovascular events more effectively than standard risk factor–based care.

What Happens in Atherosclerosis?

Atherosclerosis is a condition where fatty deposits (plaque) build up inside the arteries, causing them to harden and narrow. This reduces blood flow to vital organs, increasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular problems. The process often begins silently, without noticeable symptoms, until significant blockage occurs.

Complications

  • Heart Disease: Plaque buildup in coronary arteries can lead to angina or heart attacks.
  • Stroke: Blockages in arteries that supply the brain can result in stroke or transient ischemic attacks.
  • Peripheral Artery Disease: Narrowed arteries in the limbs can cause pain, weakness, or mobility issues.
  • Aneurysm: Weakening of artery walls can cause bulging that may rupture if left untreated.

Symptoms:

  • Chest Pain or Pressure: Often occurs during physical activity.
  • Shortness of Breath: Due to limited blood flow to the heart.
  • Fatigue or Weakness: Especially noticeable during exertion.
  • Numbness or Coldness in Limbs: Caused by restricted circulation.
  • Dizziness or Lightheadedness: May indicate poor blood flow to the brain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate in this clinical trial?

This study enrolls adults aged 55 and older, of any gender, who do not have known symptoms of ASCVD but are at increased risk due to age, diabetes, prediabetes, or metabolic syndrome.

What is the goal of the trial?

The trial aims to test whether a personalized approach using coronary artery imaging, risk assessment, and tailored treatment can more effectively reduce cardiovascular events compared with standard risk factor–based care.

How does this study differ from traditional prevention methods?

Unlike standard methods that rely mainly on risk factors such as age, blood pressure, or cholesterol, this trial looks directly at the arteries to detect atherosclerosis, enabling more precise identification of cardiovascular risk and personalized care.
